We have summer clothes and we have winter clothes – but what happens during that awkward period when we find ourselves betwixt and between?
That cute summer dress may look gorgeous, but it isn’t going to fare well in a huge downpour. And that winter coat is uber-cosy but isn’t going to be a welcome addition when the sun comes out again.
So, to help you plan ahead for this transition of seasons, we’ve put together our top tips and must-haves for your wardrobe:
Don’t Be Afraid to Mix and Match
First, it’s easy to feel as though you need to have separate outfits for summer and winter, after all, the catwalk only shows us spring/summer and autumn/winter designs. There isn’t a style for all seasons.
However, you can make whatever style you like work for you throughout the seasons.
For example, you know that pretty summer dress we were talking about earlier? Well, that can work when frost starts to appear on the ground. Simply team it with our next hugely important item of clothing (a cardigan) and some tights (nude ones will keep you warm while still emitting the summer vibe).
Equally, when it’s not as warm outside, don’t be afraid to dig out those boots or that woolly jumper – just team them with a pair of white jeans or another summery item to mix the seasons perfectly.
Arm Yourself with a Cardigan
Before you do anything else, make sure you’ve got at least one cardigan in your wardrobe. These items of clothing are heaven sent when temperatures start to dip but aren’t overly cool.
Lightweight in design, they’re ideal for throwing over your shoulder before you go out. And they’ll go with almost any outfit so you’ll always have something to keep you warm without detracting from the overall look and feel of your outfit.
Lightweight Coats and Jackets
While a cardigan’s great if you’re going out with friends or the temperatures aren’t too cool, when they do start to dip quite significantly, it’s time to dig out your coat again.
However, as mentioned previously, winter coats aren’t great when the temperatures are still in double figures, so lightweight designs are a must.
For example, puffer jackets are great for keeping the chill at bay and for keeping you dry in a downpour, but they’ll also smarten up any outfit – day or night.
Buy New Boots
Finally, as autumn and winter approach, it’s time to go boot shopping. Ankle boots are the perfect companion for all cooler weather and they look great with a variety of outfits. For smarter occasions, opt for heeled designs, or to keep things casual, look for laced-up boots with a chunky sole.
Alternatively, Chelsea boots are perfect for all occasions. Wear them on cool days with denim and chunky knitwear, and when the sun shines, team them with that beautiful summer dress that you just can’t get enough of. (A smaller heel works well for everyday wear).
So there you have it! Armed with these tips and essentials, the weather won’t be catching you out again anytime soon.
